Self-massage & Myofascial Release— with Lisa Milloy

I invite you to join me online to practice Self-massage and Myofascial Release. In these sessions we will practice and learn effective ways to release pain and unwind tension, restore balance and improve posture. The classes can stand alone as a way for you to ‘receive’ bodywork, or if you have been receiving treatments, they offer a potent way for you to maintain the benefits of hands-on treatments between appointments. These therapeutic practices are accessible to all levels, and with a few simple modifications, are safe for those of you with acute or chronic injuries, and for those who are pregnant or have recently given birth. The movements and techniques will leave you feeling more embodied and in-tune, as well as more calm and spacious. We will practice developing an attitude of kindness and acceptance towards our bodies as we witness our ever-changing sensations and states.

Each class has a focus/theme that I will adapt to suit the group’s specific needs. We will regularly address the most common areas of concern - the neck and shoulders, the low back, and (home)office related tension patterns, including tension headaches. These classes are 60 minutes, and will be guided as a flowing sequence. The classes are intended - and most effective - as a regular practice, but you’re also welcome to just drop-in periodically when you feel you need it most.

All sessions are currently being offered online via Zoom.

HALF DAY WORKSHOPS || Self-massage & Myofascial Release — with Lisa Milloy

In this format you will have the opportunity to develop the skills of self-massage/myofascial release, while cultivating an embodied understanding of the fascia and how it intricately interconnects the whole of the body. Each workshop is individually themed and can be attended as a single offering, though I encourage you to attend the full series. The workshops are designed to support and inspire those who are interested in establishing or renewing a self-care/home practice, as well as those who wish to dive more deeply into their own bodies and expand their knowledge. The content will emphasize the element of practice. I will periodically offer relevant, theoretical information about anatomy, physiology, and current/emerging research as a tool to deepen our understanding and felt experiences. There will be ample time to move and explore your body, practice the techniques, and if you so choose, to participate in reflection and dialogue.

Pilates-inspired Movement— with guest teacher Gratia Napier

Gratia is a US native who relocated to Berlin in 2013. She was introduced to Pilates as a complementary workout offered by the Director of her dance company in 2006 and soon after began her Pilates Mat Certification from the Kane School of Core Integration in NYC (now Kinected). After relocating to Brooklyn in 2010, she continued her training with Erika Bloom, founder of the Erika Bloom Pilates Method. Both of her teachers' knowledge is deeply rooted in anatomy and the therapeutic and holistic benefits of Pilates training as a way to improve strength and stability.

In addition to these benefits, Gratia’s Pilates-based classes also pull from her own dance training and mindfulness practices. She incorporates somatic exploration and breathwork that allows each client to tap into their own innate abilities. She facilitates a personalized journey towards a greater understanding of one’s own body through the gift of joyful movement and awakened curiosity. Through these movement classes, we will celebrate the functionality of our bodies and engage in new ways of moving in the world.

The details:

In light of the current restrictions throughout Germany, Gratia will be offering donation-based online classes.

Please join on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 - 10:00.

The suggested donation is 15€ but you have the option to pay what you can. Gratia's wish is that these classes be available to all during this lockdown period so we can continue to breathe and move through these challenging times together.
